[logon] (recent and upcoming) changes to the LOGON infrastructure

colleagues,

i am writing to alert you to ongoing updates in the so-called LOGON tree.
some current changes are somewhat foundational, but where they affect
only the specifics of the LOGON setup, i do not plan on sending frequent
email to the 'developers' list about such revisions.

somewhat to my surprise, i just noticed that a number of people who are
actively using the LOGON tree for their development are not subscribed
to the LOGON mailing list. i would encourage anyone who builds on any
parts of the LOGON tree (e.g. pre-compiled PET binaries, or ready-to-run
LKB and [incr tsdb()] versions), to sign up for this list at:

  http://lists.emmtee.net/mailman/listinfo/logon

as for recent changes, i have consolidated the range of pre-compiled PET
binaries included in the LOGON tree. there used to be 'old' and 'new' and
'oe' and (at times) 'conll' binaries, typically with an ad-hoc definition of the
specific PET version and configuration they provided. i have now tried to
devise a more systematic scheme, which i hope can address the needs of
all active users. please see the following page for details:

  http://wiki.delph-in.net/moin/LogonPet

please note that i have updated the 'standard' LOGON cpu definitions (in
'dot.tsdbrc') appropriately. in case you have cpu definitions of your own,
please make sure to review and revise these, as needed (particularly, in
case you were using the old '-n' option; it should now be unnecessary).

best wishes, oe
