[logon] preparing for second public LOGON release

colleagues,

primiarly, this message is to test mailing list functionality. i just
renamed the list `osmt at emmtee.net' to `logon at emmtee.net' and expect to
start using this list a little more actively. the plan is to release a
new snapshot of the LOGON tree (dubbed the HandOn release), and to move
development on the LOGON tree from the semi-private CVS repository to a
(mostly) public SVN repository. you can get an SVN preview here:

  http://svn.emmtee.net/tags/handon

we are currently in the process of testing, primarily the updated JaEn
and DeEn language pairs in this release (plus the NoEn updates from the
HandOn project).

while we are migrating from CVS to SVN, i see no alternative to keeping
two copies of the tree, at least for those (few) people who still want
to update their components for the HandOn release, and also test things
the way they will be delivered in the public SVN release.

i hope to complete this migration this coming week, at which point CVS
will become read-only (and disappear to non-LOGON members eventually),
and SVN will become writable for component developers.

please let me know if any of the above is surprising or inconvenient to
you. i am copying yi and rebecca who had volunteered to help test the
forthcoming HandOn tree. please feel free to subscribe to this list; i
expect to continue supporting the LOGON tree (through SVN) as a kind of
DELPH-IN distribution---primarily targeting MT and related work. maybe
there is no need for a separate list, and `logon' could be subsumed by
the `developers' list. anyone with opinions on that?

                                                     all best - oe
